Music in Your Marriage
We have always been conscious of music in our relationship. We danced to the jukebox in the Union at Alma College; we still dance whenever we get the opportunity. So what is music in marriage? Some songs speak to us through the years.
Musical elements can be related to marriage. Melody in marriage equals regular day to day life-daily sharing times, planning meals, making a home. Harmony equals communication, new learning, shared experiences, and conflicts resolved. Percussion equals heat and anger, as well as play, laughter, and excitement. Mood Music equals sexuality. Grace notes equal surprises.
All the elements are important, but don’t forget rhythm. That back beat is commitment, a constant underneath that holds us up and keeps us going for the long term. We can turn up the volume on our commitment.
