Dr. Rob’s Garden – Purveyors of Specialty Cut Flowers

Visit us for fresh garden flowers at the Waleska Farmers’ Market on Thursdays (9-1) May through September next to the Waleska, GA City Hall. You can cut your own beautiful bouquet by appointment or on U-Pick Tuesdays (9-11).

Flowers and People – I was eight years old when Dad bought the greenhouse which he ran as a second job. I started pulling a wagon around the block, peddling flowers and rhubarb. I grew into the responsibility for keeping the plants watered and the furnace stoked when dad was on the road. A shy little boy learned how to talk because customers became friends. Interest in plants took me to Alma College and the University of Minnesota. Fossil plants fed the family in the oil company research years. And botany was a passion shared in the Reinhardt University classrooms for over twenty-five years.

There have always been gardens; in retirement, I went a little overboard. As a Tai Kwon Do grandad, I met Jody Conley’ and she invited me to be a vendor at the Waleska Farmers’ Market.

The garden is my pastime. For Sylvia and me, the market has become an extension of coupleness. Replacement of our quad chairs with a wicker loveseat has changed work into a date. We meet neighbors, old friends, and former students. We make new friends and hear stories: “My grandmother loved zinnias.” “Mom’s favorite is Sweet William.” We begin each market with the question, “What blessings will we see today?”

And yes, we quietly share marriage enrichment, occasionally sell a copy of Wonderful Wednesdays, and encourage anyone who shows interest to read our love letter blogs and have conversations with each other about more than planning.
